Based on the expected average age of the intended inpatients and outpatients this unit will be one of the most attended special wards. The main tasks of this unit are:

Examination and treatment of pregnant women
Prenatal care in general including nursing

Neonatal convalescent care
Instructing and teaching of mothers before leaving for home

Newborn Jaundice

Jaundis is a yellow discoloration of the skin and or whites of the eyes that is often seen in newborn infants. The discoloration is caused by a yellow substance called bilirubin. Jaundis is not a disease, but is symptom of an elevated blood bilirubin level. Jaundis is not painful, but serious complications and can occur if elevated bilirubin levels are not treated in timely manner. Severe jaundice can be toxic to the nervous system or infant, potentially causing brain damage.
